Description
The Avanti was Studebaker’s last roll of the dice, and with it the eccentric 100-year-old company excelled itself. Designer Raymond Loewy’s iconic vision would be built for an astonishing 40 years by a string of die-hard enthusiasts, but Studebaker’s 1963-64 originals are the purest examples. And now, survivors of the 4,643 Avanti's that left the factory in South Bend, Indiana, are highly desirable and on the collector's radar more than ever. The Avanti name is an Italian exhortation for “forward!” and cried out for an exclamation mark on the badge. Original cars have a pronounced forward rake to assist streamlining, and the car was marketed as “America’s only 4-passenger High-Performance Personal Car.”
The 1964 Studebaker Avanti offered here is a rare opportunity to own a part of Americana, when cars had their own personalities, unlike the mundane cars of today. This fine example is the highly desirable Supercharged version and backed by a smooth automatic transmission. The Avanti has been under the same ownership since 1968 (includes the original bill-of-sale & tons of documentation), always garaged, and always loved. The owner of 56 years is sadly no longer with us, but his understood passion of the automobile and his effort to maintain an outstanding example of an Avanti will live on. The stunning color combination of White over Red hides is amazing. The Stude includes eclectic touches such as the acrylic wood steering wheel, the fender mirror, and from the unique door sills to the white knob window cranks. Studebaker was far ahead of its time, and every minor detail was addressed. The Avanti is a work of art, and to just sit in the cockpit and admire the craftsmanship is unparalleled. Under the hood is no less a masterpiece- with the endless chrome and configuration is automobile craftsmanship at its finest. The car starts with a touch of the ignition and drives/ steers straight. The brakes are firm and in terrific working order. The transmission goes through the gears effortlessly. The acceleration is peppy. This is a fine example of a 1964 Studebaker Avanti and will make a great addition to even the most prestigious collector. Financing available WAC.
